Role
My role focused on product design, positioning and UI/UX. I defined how a mobile app could reduce friction, broaden the user base, and unlock new creative behaviours, while designing the interaction models and flows that made image generation feel native to mobile. This combined strategic framing with hands-on product design.
Problem
Midjourney has become one of the most popular generative AI tools, but its Discord-based interface limits accessibility and creative flow. Mobile-first creators face unnecessary barriers, as the lack of a dedicated app makes experimentation and everyday use cumbersome.
Solution
I designed a mobile-first concept that reimagined Midjourney as a standalone app. The experience streamlined prompting, browsing, and editing into a touch-native flow, translating the complexity of generative AI into a simple and engaging mobile product. The design also considered brand alignment, ensuring the app felt like a natural extension of Midjourney’s creative ethos.
Market Gap
Most AI content creation tools are locked to desktop workflows, while the majority of creators, especially younger demographics work almost entirely on their phones. This mismatch leaves a clear opportunity: Midjourney’s powerful generative capabilities are not yet accessible in the environment where creators spend the most time. A mobile-native Midjourney experience lowers the barrier to entry and embeds creation into everyday habits. With seamless sharing to social platforms, push notifications for creative prompts, and on-the-go editing, the app could expand adoption, increase retention, and position Midjourney as a daily creative companion.
Outcome
The prototype resonated with peers in the design and AI community as a compelling vision for how Midjourney could scale beyond early adopters. It shows my ability to take a cutting-edge tool and design a product that opens it up to wider markets through positioning and user-centred design.
